I was diagnosed with bipolar at 33, I am now 66, have taken many different meds, with minimal success, can someone tell me if they are happy with the meds they are on ? Lonely in il.
I spent years misdiagnosed and on SSRIs only to finally be told I have bipolar disorder. SSRIs can aggregate the symptoms of bipolar rather then relieve them so I was taken off of them. Currently I am on 500mg of depakote twice a day and 60mg of Latuda at night. The Latuda has been a miracle for me. I had forgotten what it was like to
Not be depressed and now I feel amazing. I realize everyone is different but maybe it could work for you as well. I hope you can find the relief that I have found.
Hi, Cheryl! Antidepressants are often contraindicated in BP disorder. I was strictly taken off them because they provoked major manic episodes.
I'm now taking Vraylar, lithium and methylphenidate (for depressive episodes) and they're working very well.
Best regards and good luck! Don't give up hope!!! Wildcat
Hi Cheryl: I have had good success with the generic of Wellbutrin SR. It is not an SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor). Wellbutrin SR is an NDRI (Noradrenaline Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitor). It is often prescribed for people who are bipolar because it doesn't affect the serotonin receptors, but rather, the norepinephrine/noradrenaline and dopamine receptors.
I have bipolar with major panic disorder. I take latuda 60mg, trileptal 600mg twice a day and 10mg of lexapro. Plus .5mg of klonopin 3 times a day for my panic disorder. It has done wonders for me. I think the key is first finding a doctor that actually listens to you. I am 45 and have been on and off my meds for years because it just seemed they couldn't get it right so I would give up. Don't ever do that, I was horrible off my meds. I feel better than I have in many years, it's kind of sad it took this long but I kept trying and found a good doctor. Have they tried a mood stabilizing drug at all? That is when I got so much better.
