I have been taking ibuprofen for a week for pain from sciatica. I also take gabapentin. I just found out last night people with heart failure should never take ibuprofen. How serious is this? I have left messages with my doctor, but so far he has not responded. The gabapentin caused me to gain 10 lbs. rapidly, so I lowered that dosage and added ibuproten. I have been taking two gabapentin and two ibuprofen in the morning, one gabapentin (100 mg. strength) and two ibuproten in the afternoon and two of each at night. They work for the pain, but now I am afraid of what I have done to my condition. I have had periods of shortness of breath since starting ibuprofen. My heart failure has been stable before this. How long does it take for ibuprofen to leave your system? My doctor also gave me a prescription for hydrocodone in case the gabapentin didn't work, but I don't want to take it because it will make me too groggy. Has anyone tried hydrocodone for sciatic pain? I took it in the hospital after brain surgery and it gave me hallucinations, but this is for a lower dose. I would appreciate anyone's comments on this.
