My son can be argumentative talkative and has tendency to not listen. As a result creates tension at home
Concerta is a stimulant, although it has effects that are opposite from what would be expected of a stimulant. While stimulants (like caffeine) can cause hyperactivity, this medication has a calming effect. While the exact way the drug produces this effect is not known, it is known to affect certain chemicals in the brain.
Concerta is a tablet that is released in two stages: The outer part of the tablet dissolves quickly and releases an immediate dose. The inner part releases the rest of the medication slowly over time.
In one study, children with ADHD who took Concerta had significant improvement in their symptoms, compared to children with the condition who did not take the drug. The improvements were reported by teachers who were asked to rate the symptoms of ADHD in the children.
My son is on Concerta and it works great for him. It calms him so he can concentrate in High School and to do homework at home. We take him off during the summer months and I find a big difference. He goes back to being hyper, unpredictable, louder than usual, quick to do something without thinking about it. We have tried Stratera, and Vyvanse too before but Concerta had less side effects for him. It only takes away him apppetite a little, but my son takes Ciproheptadine 1mg for appetite. All these meds have the tendancy to take away appetite. He feels normal on Concerta which is a bonus when you have Adhd.
