I have been taking the pill for 3years. This month I missed a pill and came on my period for a week even though I had had my period the week before while taking the inactive pills. A few days after this stopped I started spotting again even though I have not missed any active pills. Is this normal? Am I still protected?
If you missed a pill your body is responding to the decrease in hormones. It wasn't a period it was breakthru. You're protected. Breakthru bleeding means nothing, as far as protection, unless its because you missed a bunch of pills.
Time for a small biology class since this is the second question. Our reproductive system is controlled by hormones that change and fluctuate through out the month. This is why our discharge changes throughout the month. When there is a withdrawal of hormones our body bleeds, this is how we're made. The pill mimics our cycle. And when you have a slight change in your hormones you may get bleeding. You should straighten out next month if you don't miss any more pills.
