Hi. I need to schedule a colonoscopy/endoscopy and all the doctors I have spoken with use propofol. I've read that it's a very strong sedative and I do not want to be totally out. Has anyone had a bad experience with it, and has anyone had an endoscopy without being asleep? I am terrified and really appreciate your help. Thanks.
I had an endoscopy with just sedation, but you're having a colonoscopy, right. You don't want to do that awake. When meds like propofol are used in the hospital, a dr who knows what he is doing with it is giving it and there are checks on the patient constantly while sedated. And if a problem should arise, the hospital is prepared to deal with them.
