Cold sores usually clear up without treatment within 7-10 days. However, antiviral creams such as Zovirax or Famvir can be used to ease your symptoms and speed up the healing time. Pain can also be treated with painkillers, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen or topical anaesthetics including Orabase and Kank-a. Ask your pharmacist for more advice.
