I was prescribed codeine for post-surgical pain when I had my wisdom teeth removed a few years back, and then again last September when my toenail was ripped off from a horse incident. The first time I didn't take any beyond one dose, as it made me violent and aggressive, but took them again last year when the pain was so unbearable, I was waking up multiple times per night. The pain didn't subside, even after taking 2. Has anyone else experienced the ineffectiveness, or is it just me?
I don't find codeine as effective as other pain meds, but everyone reacts differently. You'll find most pain medication won't seem as effective if you wait to take it until your pain is unbearable. Pain is best controlled when you stay on top of it consistently with regular doses of medication.
