She has tried 4 other drugs in 6 years, I am very scared of this drug however and the side effects i have been told about. This is kind of a last resort the voices are so bad very negative and threatening. please anyone tell me how useful or not your experiences of this drug. She is 27 now.
Hi Hazel Hgte like to tell you a few things on this medication yes there are a lot of side effects with this drug but just because they list them does not mean you Daughter well have them. When they put a patient on this medication this is why they have to go into a hospital so they are monitored well..and there are all kinds of precautions on Clozapine Only special trained Doctors can prescribe this medication. And only special pharmacy's can order it direct from the manufacturer And then the pharmacy has to call it in to the FDA before they can dispense the Prescription to the patient and only the special trained Doctor can write the prescription for a limited quantity per prescription these are all for the patient protection and as I said the Doctor,Pharmacist, and Pharmacy need special licence and training to be able to prescribe or dispense this medication And counsel the patient And this is all for extra safety for the patients.
And she well be checked often by the Doctor..So Mom it's great you are so involved for your Daughter. Chuck1957 medicaly retired pharmacy technician C.ph.T Oregon.
Based on the facts in your post the possibilities this will help her far outweigh the side effects, many of which may not even come into play. Opinions gathered on the Internet are subjective, as these meds affect everyone differently. Have trust in the Dr, for without that your anxiety will increase and that will not be helpful to either one of you.
As a person who has been on clozaril since 1995, there's so much I could share with you. Within a week..most of my symptoms were gone. Are you prepared for a recovery? It can be difficult for parents to treat their children as adults. It was a hard transition for my parents to realize that I was recovered enough to live a free life like other adults have. Every behavior seemed to be judged through a lenses of mental illness. They held me back and I held myself back as well. Eventually I forgave myself for the irrational actions that occurred while I was sick. I got back to wanting the same things I wanted before the illness took control. Clozaril is an important factor to recovery but it is only one aspect. Encouraging your daughter to regain a social life is very important as well. I was able to go on to college and graduate school.
Now that I am 40..i regret not marrying or having children but I carried this idea around that the illness would come back and that I wouldn't be a blessing to husband and children. If your daughter recovers. .please remind her that she can do anything or try anything that anyone else does. The illness is not coming back. Battle weightgain with healthy eating and exercise. May God be with you.
