They are in the same family commonly called "Benzo's". Valium is longer acting than Klonopin (Clonazepam) so it won't hit you as hard. A good example is Xanax which is a short acting benzo that packs a big punch compared to Valium or Clonazepam. If you felt the same effects from both then I am assuming they both relieved your anxiety... which is what they are suppose to do.
