My 15 year old has been getting this from a friend, I found them in her backpack, How do I bring this up and confront her? She has some pretty bad panic attacks from time to time, But I have noticed she has been alot happier and not as out of energy as much. She has asked me to take her to a doctor in the past but I was always afraid to because I have heard that drugs of these kind have many side effects. I now feel bad because I feel I have caused her to turn to a school friend and she got these drugs from that person.
Hello tessie2012. Yes she can. But you might be a whole lot better of having a doctor perscribe them for her. These type of drugs can work against her, meaning teenagers in as much as they can cause more serious types of side effects. Under a doctors supervision, her dose can be adjusted when and if needed and her progress can also be monitered. Most of the physical side effects ease up the longer a person is taking the drug. Given a perscription, she would also then be taking the drug on a daily basis and then in turn receiving the full theraputic potential of the Citalopram. Regards, pledge
