Hi I've been taking 20mg of citalopram for anxiety and depression for almost two weeks now and although I've felt some improvement, I've still been struggling with holding conversations and just being able to chat which when I am well I am able to do. I was wondering whether anyone has had any positive experiences of citalopram with this problem and how long it took for it took to do so. Positive replies would be much welcomed as I am struggling and would love some much needed optimism from people who have been through similar experiences to. Thank you :)
HI, User! Not to worry, you are well on your way!. Antidepressants/anxiolytics do not work like most medications that work almost instantaneously. It takes, on average, about 3-4 weeks to really feel the benefits and about 6 weeks to reach fully therapeutic blood levels. But they are frequently prescribed and work very well for all sorts of anxiety disorders.
Hang in there a little longer and you should be feeling much better soon.
Best wishes, Wildcat
