My 95yr mom. Been on this med for about one month and half. She is doing well but tends to be very sleepy most of the daytime but up early in the night and stays up and sleepy most of the day. She takes the meds in the morning by the nurse in the resident she is staying. Would it be better to give in late evening that way she would be more relax to sleep at night.
Hi, some people do prefer to take Citalopram at night. Because Citalopram has a very long half life, it will be always be active in your 'system' for as long as you are taking it. However, the peak plasma concentration occurs between 1-4 hours after administration. So if it on taking the daily dose your mum feels very sleepy, it could be a good idea to try taking it nightly. If this proves fruitful, the dose must be taken at the same time each evening for maximum SSRI effect. I hope she feels better soon!
