I've been on 20mg for 1 month and I'm still suffering from anxiety and low moods. Is it worth going upto 40?
Hi, J! It can take 4-6 weeks to feel the benefits of citalopram and 6-8 weeks to achieve full therapeutic blood levels. But, yes, an increase to 40mg can be made after just one week of 20mg therapy and the increase may be what it takes to help the medication kick in for you. 40mg is a common maintenance dose for many people.
Talk to your doctor about the increase and maybe try giving it more time.
Best regards, Wildcat
Jfitt97; What you should do is stay on what you are until you can call the doctor about this it is very common to take the 40mg over the 20 but you don't want to change it without you doctor saying so You are very close to where you should be feeling the benefits of the citalopram. But before you raise it to call the doctor and ask and remember it could take a couple more weeks to really start to feel better. good luck to you. chuck
You need to discuss this with your dr. If you feel no relief so to speak then ask to be increased but do not increase that type of medication without a Dr approval.
