I was prescribed Cipro for a UTI. I had to start the Cipro the same day I began a new pack of MonoNessa. Will I be safe using a backup (condom) this month or is the antibiotic out of my system?
Very good to be safe use a back up system here is a copy of the Interaction.best to make sure for this month to use a back up here is a copy of the Interaction between the two medications
.Interactions between your selected drugs
ciprofloxacin ethinyl estradiol
Applies to: Cipro (ciprofloxacin), Mononessa (ethinyl estradiol / norgestimate)
Antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin may reduce the effects of ethinyl estradiol in some women. If you are using ethinyl estradiol for birth control, you may be at increased risk for pregnancy or breakthrough bleeding. Talk to your healthcare provider to determine if you should use an alternative or additional form of birth control during treatment with ciprofloxacin. In addition, some birth control preparations may include "placebo" non-hormonal pills that contain iron. If you are taking these iron pills during treatment with ciprofloxacin, you should separate the dosing times by several hours so that the iron does not interfere with absorption of the antibiotic. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for information on when best to take these medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. That should answer any questions good catch on your part. have to be careful Chuck1957
