I've been using ciclopirox lacquer twice a day (per doc's orders) for three months so far and see no improvement yet. Is this normal? Also, am I the only one who finds the "use alcohol to remove once a week" much more difficult than it sounds? Is there something other than alcohol that would do a better (quicker, easier) job of removing the week's buildup? (My doc said not to use acetone, so that's not the answer I'm looking for.) Anybody?
Fungal infections of the nail are notoriously difficult to treat topically!
Medicines clear up fungus in about 50% of patients and even with successful treatment, it is common for the fungus to return.
If you are finding this frustrating talk with your doctor. An oral anti-fungal medicine may be a more appropriate treatment.
