I need the assistance of my husband to pound my rib cage and back to loosen the mucus in order to sleep at night.this is really a problem I have consulted various doctors and nothing helps other that the pounding of my back
It sounds like its in your chest, not post nasal. Have you tried something to thin the mucous so you can cough it up? Something like guaifenesin.
Post nasal drip many times is an increase in mucus caused by an allergic response to an irritant. Asthma attacks initially start w this same response. However many are very mild & only cause an irritating cough that is aggravating some times to the point of the feeling of choking. Hence the upright nature & rib cage pounding that you notice improving it. Cough treatments are notoriously ineffective & chronic cough is extremely difficult to treat. Short of visiting an Allergist, my suggestion is to change all bedding, clothes, chemicals etc to be as anti-allergic as possible & remove as many things as you can completely. Allow no animals of any kind in your bedroom, Keep the room clean & as free from possible irritants & allergens such as bed bugs, etc & keep a journal of everything occurring each time it occurs. I would include my partner and questioning him about any possible allergens he may be accidentally bringing into the bedroom. Perhaps an offending agent will appear that may magically solve your problem. Good luck. Chronic cough is a hell that not only you suffer with but affects the ones who live with you. I wish you the best.
