hi moonshine,i am a 42 yr old guy who was diagnosed with CP in 2010.Suffered for 10 yrs before i was diagnosed,by then so many acute attacks had damaged it alot.In 2010, Dr.Gary Vitali at university of louisville removed 85% of my pancrease and my spleen.First 2yrs after my surgery I felt much better eventhough recovery and a second surgery for a abcess 2 weeks later was the hardest time in my life!!! After 2 yrs the pain started to come back and continue till this day. Please dont let this discourage you,I know other people who had the same surgery with relief from pain.It is only a small % that do not get relief from this surgery. As far as meds I am lucky to have found a great family dr after my surgery, and that is crucial ! I take percocet 10/325 3 times a day and dilaudid 2 mg,2 tablets every 4 hours for breakthrough pain.Eventhough I have to go to the ER when oral meds cant keep up and IV dilaudid 2MG bolus(2 doses) is all that will help, my family dr. is very understanding. The ER docs and nurses are less than kind, everything from im making it up to im just a junkie because with 15% of pancrease left my amylase and lipase is rarely elevated. They went so far as to send me home once and told me not to come back until my family doc approved then treating me !!! Thankfully he backed me up 100% If i could only make them feel the sword going through my front and hanging out my back, they might feel some compassion.I know it is easy to become depressed but you have to fight it for your husband and child.Get a good DR for pain management, and pray hardest when its hardest to pray.
