... 9 years that they will no longer be able to write my prescriptions for the pain medicines they have had me taking for many years. Do we just lose any quality of life? I really don't understand what is happening. I have been taking MS Contin 200 mg twice a day, and oxycodone 30 mg 3 times a day. I have been on this dose for many years, have never called for medicines early. The doctor wants to refer me to pain management, but all of the reviews for the pain management doctors are horrible. What are we supposed to do now?
Unfortunately with all the new laws the government has passed on pain meds, primary doctors are making their patients with chronic pain see a pain management doctor.
I have been with my pain doctor for 7 years now and have a great relationship with him.
I don't think you would have any issues with a pm doc since you don't ask for refills early. As long as you follow the pain contract you sign you will have no problem.
DearLoneWolf, I understand what you are going thru. My Pain Clinic with 7 Drs closed in Oct, 2016 and only one was taking willing patients with them. I called several closer to home but they would not even put me on the books b/c I had no referral. Out of desperation, I went with the 1 taking patients with her but I had been seen by another doctor, so she was new to me even tho I had been seen at her clinic. I have serious, debilitating pain and it took me and previous Doc over 8 yrs to get me half way functioning some of the time. Now she says this new clinic has limits and is going to reduce my pain med by more than 50%. I know this will cause pain to be more intense but am stuck. The FDA is monitoring these clinics so they are cutting back on a lot of the strong pain meds. People like you and me will suffer and there is not much we can do about it. Going elsewhere and asking for what we know works for us could make us come across as drug seekers.
Its a mess and we are right in the middle of it, I so wish I never dealt w/ pain clinic, My primary doc was just as good as the other w/o all the politics. I am sorry if this offends anyone...
