After Darvocet was taken off the market I was well managed on a combination alternating between Ibuprofen and Norco. It was simple and worked. (My list of meds that did not work is long, ranging from neurontin to nortriptoline; right now I am trying Lyrica AGAIN.) I've recently moved to NY (Brooklyn) and I cannot find a Dr. who will prescribe Norco or something similar. I am very healthy, I don't drink alcohol, I exercise appropriately. Also, I am in daily pain. And I am tired of being treated like scum when I know there is a medication that exists that can help me. Lately I have begun to worry more because my stomach has become more sensitive to the Ibuprofen. I am close to hopeless. Any ideas?
Did you bring your old records to your new Dr that showed you were a responsible pain patient with your other Dr? It is difficult to get a Dr to prescribe at times. Are you going to GP (general practitioner/family dr)? If so, then you might try asking for a referral to pain mangement. Pain management Drs are much more likely to prescribe opioids than a regular GP. That is their specialty and they know the regulations better. Some GP's are just terrified of prescribing opioids because they are afraid of being in trouble with the DEA or resposible for someone dependent on opioids. It is a pain for them to write for these meds because of the hoops they have to go through that's why I say to try a pain Dr-they are much more familiar with the regulations and are familiar with all the documentation necessary. Many GPs know very little about chronic pain and are reluctant to treat it. They get very little training in medical school in how to take care of chronic pain patients. Good Luck! I hope you find someone. You may have to be tenacious but hopefully a pain Dr can get you back on the neds that work for you.
