... infection,if you have chronic IBS I have severe stomach pain and when I take antibiotics for chest infection as I have COPD the pain is worse.I also have Reumetoid Athritis Underactive Thyroid ,and I have had a heart attack.I usually have an emergency of antibiotics but they are usually Amoxicillin 500mg but they really give me a lot of stomach pain.I just wanted to know if there is an alternative .
The best antibiotic is the one for the current condition. Different infections need different medication. I have ILD and if it is a lung infection it ranges from amoxicillin to hospital with getting an IV and a Bronch culture to know. Self treating a condition is not safe. Not all infections are bacteria. Many things are viral. Continued exposure to one antibiotic can develop drug resistant bacteria if the dose and timing are not correct. So unless you meant the doctor keeps giving you the medication you are endangering yourself. There should be no left over antibiotics after a prescription. Stopping too soon also causes drug resistant bacteria.
As for stomach issues, amoxicillin can be taken with food. This ought to help the stomach. Let your doctor know this is happening. With your other conditions there may be problems with when you take the med. this is an issue to be worked out with your doctor. There is no such thing as a better drug. There is only the doctors decision based upon symptoms and other medications you take which tells the doctor which medication to use and when. Please discuss with your doctor. All medications can be very powerful and with a heart condition you need to be very careful.
