I am a teenager who has been experiencing major migraines for a couple of years now. Ive been to many doctors and my most recent doctor prescribed me maxalt(10mg) to help treat the migraines but the medication does not work at all. There is no specific time or date the I get migraines and they do prevent me from doing any activity. Usually I can just sleep them away but now they have gotten to the point where I want to go to the ER each time I get one. My migraines last hours sometimes even days. Thanks to anyone who has some advice
If the Maxalt is not working you can ask your doctor to prescribe Zomig Nasal spray instead. Another option is a combination set of drugs that you can discuss with your doctor is Phenergan (Promethazine) and D.H.E. 45 (dihydroergotamine) both are injectables. DHE 45 is the go to drug for cluster headaches sufferers, but is also used by regular migraines. Most younger doctors do not want to prescribe this drug for some reason but it has been on the market forever, in drug terms and in a majority of cases it really works. Good luck, and stay strong if you need to fight with your doctor to get what you need.
