I've had trouble falling asleep all my life. I take between 1 to 3 hours at least to fall asleep if I even sleep. I've been treated for bipolar for over 30 years. I now take geodon. Taken for six weeks now. No noticeable effect whatsoever. I might as well be taking candy. Take 120mgs with food. The long nights laying awake do cause depressed mood- but who wouldn't be???
not sure about bi-polar but I had problems sleeping like an hour or two a nite some nights none at all for 4 yrs. Well I finally went to the er and found out I had type 2 diabetes, hep C and cirrhous all which led to me not sleeping. now I take Restoril 30 mgs a nite sometimes it helps sometimes I still toss and turn all night Try Seraquel if you can knocked me out like a baby but had a hangover I didn't care for so, i stopped taking them. Talk to your doc.
Hi, i have suffered from insomnia most of my adult life. I don't have Bipolar, but was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) a few years ago. Leading up to that, i have suffered with depression since i was 13. Luckily my medication combination helps me sleep. I take Seroquel (XR) and Amitriptyline at night. It doesn't knock me out but helps a lot. Are you taking any medications for your condition? Have you or your doctor considered a sleep study? I know a couple of people that have had this done, and it led to a conclusion to there sleep disruption and they were prescribed the correct medication to help.
I've had insomnia for most of my adult life, with periods of sleeping great for a while, too. I don't have bi-polar disorder, but I do have an anxiety disorder, which definitely can cause one to lay awake, staring at the ceiling!
Leave those labels at your shrink's office, you are MUCH MORE than a label!
Best wishes to you,
P.S. have you ever tried a benzo for sleep? Many people take one just to stop the anxiety at bedtime.
