Is there a difference? Can you have both conditions and how do you know? They seem to be so similar.
Hi Kim, and welcome aboard. CFS and fibro are often diagnosed together. In a lot of cases, they run together. However, there are exceptions. I suffer from fibro but I do not have CFS. I have insomnia instead. That is mainly because of my other illnesses and insane amount of medications I take. Every case is different. Im not a doctor or nurse, Im only speaking from personal experience. There are many others here who can also answer thinking question and will help you. All you have to do is ask! Take care and I hope you find resolution.
Yes, there is a difference but they commonly go together. That doesn't mean that it is a separate diagnosis but more like a by-product from the primary diagnosis, which for you is Fibro.
I can also tell you that people who suffer from chronic pain type conditions often have that as a unwelcome side-effect. After all, being in chronic pain is very, very tiring as well as some of the meds we end up on, too.
I will say that I had my psychiatrist prescribe PROVIGIL and that helped me tremendously with the fatigue issue. My endocrinologist also thought I needed a bit of a boost for my endocrine system and prescribed a small dose of HYDROCORTISONE. I take 5mg in the early a.m. as that is when the cortisol in the body is higher (I believe that is what she was telling me). The only problem I initially hade with the Provigil was insurance, of course... OF COURSE!!! They didn't want to pay for it, so what else is new??? So, instead of going on and off that stuff or not being able to always get samples from my doctor... I just stuck with the HYDROCORTISONE and like I said... it actually helps!!! Like, I no longer feel like I am going to nod off in the late morning or early afternoon.
Perhaps either of these could work for you and the Provigil also helps with alertness without causing the jitters. Just a thought and some food for thought for you. I hope this helps you and hope you will post more about this or other stuff so that we can continue to support you the best way we can.
Hugs and peace to you in your world,
