our girls have the FLU TYPE A, AGAIN AND THEY ARE COUGHING REALLY BAD. THE ER DOCTOR SAYS TO GIVE THEM TAMIFLU BUT THAT WILL COST US ALMOST 175.00 TOTAL FOR ALL THE GIRLS. I FOUND AN OLD PRESCRIPTION FOR CHLORPHENIRA-HYDROCODONE THAT WAS PRESCRIBED TO MY DAUGHTER WHEN SHE HAD THE FLU BEFORE. WILL THIS STILL HELP HER COUGH EVEN THOUGH IT'S EXPIRED?IF NOT WHAT CAN i BUY OVER THE COUNTER. RIGHT NOW WE ARE GIVING THE GIRLS TYLENOL COLD AND FLU TABLETS EVERY 4 HRS AS DIRECTED ON THE PACKAGE BUT THEIR COUGH IS REALLY BAD?
There are some good cough medicines on the market now. Ask your pharmacist. You want something with dextromethorphan in it. Tamiflu wouldn't help them immediately and get rid of the cough either. The thing is with the old cough medicine. I'd be afraid if it had any evaporation and got thicker, the concentration of hydrocodone in it would be greater. If you are using the cold and flu Tylenol it probably has dextromethorphan in it, if you check the label before you give them more. I don't envy you with 4 sick kids at once.
NO, do not give your girls expired medication whether it is over the counter or by prescription. Buy some low dose 600 mg. Mucinex over the counter that only has guiafenasen in it. It will loosen the mucus and make them cough. Watch for any kind of temperature because the flu this year is killing people.
