I would like more information on this drug when used for a 5 year old with autism and adhd.
First, I want to let you know that clonidine is not used for ADHD patients unless they suffer from autism; which is your child's case. For some reason, it seems to help autictic children focus better. What you need to watch for within the first few days of taking it is any signs that your child is dizzy, faints, or feels lightheaded--- this is normal, BUT if it continues after 5 days, I would suggest talking to his/her doctor. Also, if your child develops a sore throat or sores in his/her mouth, fevers, chest pain, or has his/her feet or hands swell; notify the doctor as soon as possible. This medicine can cause your child diarrhea, dehydration, and/or vomiting; if this happens, call the doctor. Your child may be more drowsy than usually while taking this medication. Finally, this medication causes dry mouth; make sure your child has plenty of water to drink and/or hard candy to suck on to keep the mouth moist. I hope this helps and I hope that this works well for your child.
