I was given this as a child and my teeth discoloured and ruined my life, I could Never smile. I could never smile without worrying people were going to look at my teeth, had crowns at 18 but they looked false and have done ever since , I'm 50 now and still go cold when people talk about teeth been embarrassed all my life, I'm surprised it's still on the Market why?
Its on the market because sometimes its the only option. That doesn't mean that it should be used for children and it has carried a warning that it discolors teeth since before you were born. Unless you had something that nothing else would heal, you should not have been given it.
I was given it also and suffered the exact same thing as you so I can sympathize. I'm 49 and got dentures about two years ago. They've made all the difference in the world for me. I can eat without pain, s smile without embarrassment, laugh - I just can't describe how much better I feel and how much more confident I am. Perhaps that's a solution you could consider.
The medicine is a good and effective antibiotic. Just not appropriate for children without all their adult teeth.
It's still on the market becuse it's an effective antibiotic, and it can be used by adults as long as they aren't pregnant, and don't quote me on this, because I'm not sure, but I don't think that Nursing mothers are supposed to use it either, Kaismama would probably know this, but I am so sorry that you had to go that as a child.
I had this too because of strep throat and some infections as a child. It was presumed to be better than always using penicillin. It yellowed my teeth, too. Children don't use it now. It still helps with certain infections in adults and those with full permanent teeth.
So sorry about your teeth. Have had to deal with it too. A really good dentist can do wonders. They cost a lot unless one has dental insurance. I don't. I do understand the frustration. Veneers are the best idea. If you can swing it. So sorry. I am over sixty and it is still there. Take care.
