Hello jumaima and welcome to DC. My goodness, you must be frantic by now worrying about your poor little baby! What did the doctor say? Did the doctor even recommend pedialyte for dehydration and fluid replacement with all those nice electrolytes that we all need, especially your sick child? Does your child actually have the flu? I like to make chicken soup from "scratch". I mean from the meat on the bones... boiled down to the point where the meat pulls away from the bone but before the bones start to disintegrate. It isn't just a Jewish mother's recipe from long ago... it actually does work to help the body heal plus it is nourishment that your child desperately needs at this point. I use celtic sea salt only and not that iodine enriched morton's salt stuff. The celtic sea salt AND the himalayian sea salt both contain the trace minerals that are natural to the region the salt comes from. A very necessary element for the human body.
Keeping your child hydrated is so important... I cannot imagine the agony that you BOTH are in because things don't seem to be working. So, what have you been doing that works and what have you tried that doesn't work???
If you are not satisfied with the doctor you saw... take your child to another doctor or go to the Emergency Room and demand your child be seen or admitted before the condition deteriorates to the point of no return.
I hope you will talk more about this but at the very least... see if you can get some pedialyte into your child. One bottle per day, at the very least followed up with plain water... bland, soft food as tolerated and good, old-fashion chicken soup.
Take good care and hope your child begins to feel better sooner rather than later. Don't forget to add here what the doctor recommended or what the diagnosis is for your child... okay???
Did the doctor do a fecal for parasites? Most don't have fever as a symptom, but some do. Also that would cause your daughter be run down and have secondary infections from anemia. How old is your child? Did the doctor order any lab work? I'd give her chicken soup- just skim any grease off-as fat will upset her stomach.
How old is your child? Try to keep him/her hydrated for sure. If you give gingerale you can stir out the bubble so it will make her/him feel better without making your child throw up from the bubbles. Just a trick I used with my two kids. Also make sure you bring your child back to the doctor if he/she doesn't get better.
This has gone on way too long. Your baby needs to see a doctor now. Get in as soon as your can. Dehydration is very serious in a young child. It can cause major damage to her development. Same with lack of food.
Has there been blood in the diarrhea? If so go to an emergency room. Check her skin for dehydration. Lightly pinch the skin and release. It should go smoothly back in place. If not she needs an IV immediately at the hospital. If her eyes are sunken or she is not paying attention, too weak to cry, high fever, please get her to the hospital. Any of these are serious and the extra help will be good for her and you as well.
As far as the doctor you had seen, that doctor did not treat your child properly and should have hydrated and done blood tests. Keep looking for help. Time to figure this out. Let us know how the baby is doing.
