Im on day 5 of not smoking with chantix and when im having an urge to smoke i find myself thinking "maybe just a drag off an electronic one would be ok" but then i start reasoning with myself and eventualy talk myself back out of buying one. So im wondering if it would be considered cheating if I did? And if anyone else has used a combination with the chatix?
I think if you have made it 5 days that's amazing,Congrats.I would continue with a clean quit.If the urge gets to the point your going to hit a real cigarette use the -electronic cig- as your ace in the hole.I def give you mad props your doing great.You could also try some self meditation.I took a self help course at our local college when I quit smoking pot.They say cravings usually on last about 7 min try reciting a song in your head or if your in the car turn the radio up and sing along.It worked for me by the time I got my mind focused on something else for that seven minutes the craving had passed.Hope this is helpful & keep up the good work,you can do it.-JReich78
I don't know what the poster decided as it's old, but for anyone else with a similar question: DON'T DO IT!!!
I had completely quit smoking with Chantix, had very little side effects, a slight short stomach ache right after I took it and vivid dreams that were more amusing than annoying. It worked like a charm (2 packs a day for almost 30 years and had never quit for more than a day).
THEN -- some dingbat in a bar handed me an NJOY e-cig and that was all it took. As it's pure nictotine it's just as bad if not worse than a cig, and for me it was WAY, WAY WORSE -- it's taken me 7 months to try to get off them. I'm now using Chantix again (which doesn't truly work for ecigs--it's not the "charm" it was the first time, but it's better than cold turkey or nicotine replacement).
For those quitting, keep this in mind: "The urge to smoke a cigarette goes away regardless of whether you smoke the cigarette." Paste that on your forehead, write it on your hand, put it in your car, paste it on your mirrors -- because it's true. You know the phrase "in a moment" of weakness... notice it's not in "5 minutes of weakness". Wait, just wait. It WILL pass.
If you really want to quit cigs, quit anything else that weakens your resolve (like drinking) or causes you to smoke (like drinking). Coffee too.
One , I repeat, ONE cigarette puts your MIND back at SQUARE ONE (even YEARS), not where you were the moment before you smoked it. It's never worth it. Take it from someone who knows. To be quit and blow it was NOT worth it.

Hey carried. You're allowed to smoke the first 2-4 weeks (depending on your Dr preference) that you're on Chantix. Every day you're on it it works a little better & blocks more of the physical craving so every day you smoke a little less. I found a nicotine free e-cig actually helped with the hand to mouth habit during my 1st week cig free while i was on Chantix. Its not cheating right now bcuz the chantix isn't even working 100% yet. i got Chantix 3or 4 years before told i cocud smoke i took it 1 or 2 times and it did not work 2 years ago i had gone to the er with copd bad could not even walk neb fixed me right up DR GAVE ME CHANTIX RX I TOOK IT FOR 15 DAYS SMOKED STILL BUT THEN THEY TASTED LIKES NOTHING
Take 2 times a day for 2 weeks before you think ir works or not Chantix has prob saved my life
