I was tried on the fentanyl patch years ago while in the hospital, & the doctor told me it takes 12 hours for the patch to take effect for the first one, so if your SR morphine is the 12 hour kind I would take one the same time you put on the patch, & then stop the morphine after that. They gave me shots of demerol until the patch started to relelase, but it made me deathly ill like in vomiting, so had to go back to the demerol while in the hospital. Just my thoughts... Mary
either the doctor or the pharmacist should be able to know exacly the dose of the MS Contin you were on and they have a converter chart they can change the dose and also give you a safe time inbetween medications. they usually make it known because going to far one way or the other can cause you to feel withdrawl symptoms they should be able to tell you and you should be able to make a smooth transition.
