Lyrica messes with my head and doesn't really help much with the fibro pain.I asked my Dr. to switch to Savella, but I'm told that the Lyrica needs to be out of my system. How,on earth, can I cut back on my small dose of Lyrica without being in unbearable pain. I just want to stop the Lyrica and try Savella! I have the script, but want real experience, not Dr's over reaction.
I have fibro friends that take Lyrica and Savella together! I just can't imagine why your doc wants you off your lyrica first, before you begin Savella.
We have some very smart nurses on this board, so hang in there for a different answer than mine, someone will sort this out for you.
Wishing you pain free days ahead,
Found no interaction between Lyrica and Savella. Without knowing what dose of Lyrica you are presently on, it is difficult to recommend a taper. Lyrica should definitely be tapered though. The only reason I can think of for the docs concern is if you have renal problems. Over stepping boundary here, but I would continue to reduce Lyrica and go ahead and start the Savella.
I also have Fibromyalgia (FM) and I live in the UK where Savella is not licensed. However my experience is that I have stopped taking Lyrica without any problems at all. I was on the maximum dose. I must state that I stopped taking it without medical instruction or approval to do so. However my doctor is aware of my actions now. Unlike you I have not commenced another drug. My main point is that FM doses not generate pain. It makes what is causing the pain worse, widespread and prolonged. So if you can identify the source of you pain and treat that it will help improve your FM. Many subscribe to the notion that if you treat the FM you will also treat the source of the pain. Whilst I agree with this in principle my FM has never been well controlled by medication. That said FM for the majority of us requires drug therapy treatment. When winter arrives I will have to commence drug therapy treatment for my FM.
