I took my birth control pill (low ogestral) about 3 hours late one night and had sex the next day. I proceeded with my pill that day as well. I take it every day at the same time, that’s the only time I’ve ever taken it late. I’m just worried that because I took it late there’s a chance it was less effective?
Hi Jo, a few hours late is not going to make any meaningful difference. Ethinyl estradiol and norgestrel (Ogestrel) is reliable and effective and has margins for human error. It works by preventing ovulation, changing cervical mucous and creating an unwelcoming womb to prevent embryo implantation if the other effects somehow fail which is rare.
