I'm scared what i have read it's for depression, I'm not depressed ...
Celexa, although an antidepressant, is commonly used to treat anxiety disorders as well. In the beginning you may experience some mild side effects, but don't let that discourage you. It takes a couple of weeks to adjust and upwards of a month or so to really feel the effects of this type medication.
I used to take citolopram. The pill is not just for depression. They have various types of depression/ anxiety pills, and are actually labeled as either depression or seizure medicine it all depends what is best for your anxiety/ chemical imbalance. If you are just starting just take what they say and be aware of what it does to you. I did not like the way it made me feel. But there are those that it works perfect for, everyone is different just gotta take time to find the best one for you. Hope I helped have a great day.
Hi, brenda! It's correct that many antidepressants have anxiolytic effects also, especially Celexa, Lexapro, Effexor, and Pristiq. They are very commonly prescribed for anxiety disorders and work very well for many people.
They also have the advantage of not being addictive like the benzodiazipine *anxiety* medications like Valium, Ativan, and Klonopin.
Good luck and best wishes to you, WCV
I recently visited a psychiatrist and he told me that anxiety can lead to depression and depression can have many forms. I used to take citalopram for 5 years and the only reason I stopped was because towards the end, I was waking up at early times in the morning and unable to go back to sleep. Citalopram, like other SSRI's can be used to treat a number of things. For example, I am on zoloft and that can treat depression, PTSD, etc. Like everyone says you have to give it time for it to work in your system.
Hi, it is quite common to take low dose Citalopram for anxiety. Both of my parents are prescribed 10mg for this reason. For depression you would be prescribed higher doses. I have taken Citalopram for several years and i think it is a very good medication, which can be used for more than one diagnosis.
I took Celexa for anxiety and OCD and though it was gradual improvement, it helped so much! I was able to go off it after about a year without a return of the symptoms. I hope it helps you. I'd encourage you to give it at least a couple months (unless you get bad side effects). I notice medications are often effective for a variety of things besides what they are advertised as being for.
Please try not to stress. I was prescribed cipramil 7 years ago and I never had depression as such, more a mood issue with alot of anxiety. It doesn't always have to be prescribed for straight depression.
I noticed a huge change in myself and my anxiety along with therapy over the last 7 years. I was always scared to take medication but I am really thank ful that I did take it as it really helped me and saved my life.
Good luck on your journey xx
