So GAD is an interesting disorder. Theory has it that GAD is a part of depression and not a singular anxiety disorder. Therefore antidepressants are a really good option. We can’t tell you that a certain medicine will work for you, it takes a few weeks to know. Educate yourself on the medication and its side effects. Come back if you have any questions and don’t be afraid to call your doctor.
tyler; even with GAD; does help many The best way is to start taking it decide if you want to take it in the morning or at bedtime which is normal. But one good thing about this one is the side effect is all but gone in one to2 week and by side effects its maybe increased Anxiety, nausea just the basic things but these will go away and Celexa reaches it's peak faster than most in its family right in the 4 weeks period which is about half of the time the others like it take you should start to feel much better and it does help with depression and also anxiety. but you have to make sure you take it about the same time each day and don't miss any days. Best of luck to you Chuck1957
Celexa is a great choice for GAD and as my friend, sidekick, says you should thoroughly acquaint yourself with the medication:
There is a list of possible side effects, but keep in mind that you won't have ALL of them and, if you do have a few, they generally only last a few days to a week or so.
"The side effects observed with citalopram (the active ingredient contained in Celexa) in clinical trials were generally reported as mild and transient, occurring most frequently in the first 1 to 2 weeks of therapy, and attenuating subsequently (means will go away). The most commonly reported side effects were nausea, somnolence, dry mouth, increased sweating, tremor, diarrhea, and ejaculation disorder."
It may take some weeks before you feel the full effects of the medication so try to be patient. Every day will get better!

I take it myself for GAD and I prefer it much over Zoloft as the side effects are much less in intensity. The only one I really notice is a decreased sex drive. But, I suffered from severe tension headaches, depression, and crippling anxiety. This medicine hasn't eliminated it, but has helped in addition to regularly seeing a therapist. I am about to start easing off of it with my doctor's help after six months. So worry not, you're in good hands. Just give a week to a month to fully get in your system. :)
