... osteomyelitis of the metatarsal sesamoid bone. The package insert calls for 2 to 14 days of therapy for osteomyelitis. Moreover, the package insert does not call for therapy duration any where near six weeks for any indication. Is six weeks of this drug appropriate and safe?
Osteomyelitis is hard to treat and eradicate so six weeks of IV antibiotics is very routine. I was on Cubicin and Rocephin. I was on Cubicin for 10 weeks and the Rocephin had to be stopped earlier because of liver toxicity. If you experience something like this, they will adjust your medicine. You should have weekly blood work which will show if any adjustments need to be made. In fact, six weeks is on the short side of antibiotic treatment for OM. Good luck
