For right eye circle appears oval ( vertical axis longer). Reading is difficult due to non synchronization of eyes. I am 76 past. I am diabetic & have BP. My thyrodectomy & also heart bypass operation was done 8 years back. Dr advises not to go for epi-retinal peal, as it has stopped growth in the last 8 months. He advises status-quo & to be satisfied with the present position. Pl advise.
I think I'd see another dr for a second opinion. Its entirely possible that the risks for you are too high to have it done, but its also somewhat possible he's seeing you as elderly and you don't need to live like you were 40. I'll send a message to dzoo, she used to work with an ophthamologist. Geriatrics was my specialty. She might have a better bit of advice.
What Dr is not recommending surgery, your ophthalmologist or your cardiologist? If the cardiologist says no, you wont get an ophthalmologist to touch you for a vitrectomy without cardiac clearance. If the cardiologist says ok but your ophthalmologist says no, you might consult a retinal specialist (or another retinal specialist, if the one who said no is one) because perhaps this one doesnt feel confident that his skills will help. If you get a second opinion and they say the same, then I would leave it be. Vitrectomy carries risk of retinal detachment and if you get retinal detachment, there is a possibility of losing all vision in that eye and some vision is better than no vision. Weigh your pros and cons with your retinal doc. It may be that you will have to be happy with what you have or you might find a retinal specialist with the skills to help, if your heart is in good enough shape for surgery.
