Statins work quickly. You should see major changes in your cholesterol levels, and therefore reduction of cardiovascular risk, within two to four weeks after starting treatment. Statins are most beneficial when you take them on a long-term basis. If you stop the medicine your cholesterol levels etc will creep back up again thus increasing your risk again.
