I have been taking carafate for the past 8 months. No relief from burning mouth syndrome.ialso have high sensitivity to environmental fumes and food. I also have pyroluria/ reflux/intistular cistitis/ leaky gut/ hypo sensitivity /latex syndrome/ candida/ phycision instruction to take 4 tablets a day crushed in water
My exerience: BMS started with me in 2009. My symptoms: burning secretion from front of mouth, deep ulcers under tongue, loss of voice, headache and fever. I didn't get a diaognisis from any of the doctors:MD ,DO, Dentist, Allergist or Oral Surgeon. Oral Surgeon did a biopsie and said there was no cancer but that the ulcers should be watched carefully. None of these (except the DO gave me Miracle Mouthwash, a numbing agent for temporary relief) treated my condition. My reseaching the internet efforts paid off when I came across laboratory research by Dr. Roy Rogers, a Dematology Whiz (not the singing cowboy). His research suggested Alpha Lopic Acid for treatment. ALA doesn't seem to have any bad side effects. So I concluded: take as much as needed until it works. I started with 600 mg daily, and worked my way up to 2400 mg(1200 mg mornings & 1200 mg evenings). THANK YOU DR. ROGERS!! My symptoms have subsided dramatically and are under control. No stomach issues--urine smells metallic, is only side effect. This discovery has made life alot more enjoyable for me. Good luck. Talk to your MD or Dermatologist before you try. Sundowner or Swanson make an affordable "good quality" 600 mg ALA.
