According to a few sites, the following states use marijuana medically, often for cases in which chronic pain is present. California, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Maine, Hawaii, Colorado, Nevada, Vermont, Montana, Rhode Island, New Mexico, Michigan, and New Jersey.
I know that the majority of the medical community will say that marijuana does not actually help in the relief in pain, but can help in many conditions often found in combo with chronic pain such as: nausea, vomiting, premenstrual syndrome, unintentional weight loss, insomnia, and lack of appetite (uses sourced from wikipedia under marijuana).
Good luck, and hope that you live in one of these states! I totally agree, if it helps and doesn't hurt, then why not. Honestly, the whole issue of it being illegal is plain out ridiculous. Personally, don't care for the pot myself. I tend to get all paranoid and self conscious, and may be due to my age now as well, but regardless, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to me that it is illegal at all in the first place for any use, or for that matter any drug. The war on drugs failed a long time ago, and now it only fuels illegal sales, gangs, and criminalization of a disease. If all that money was put into rehab centers and health centers in general, we'd be in such a better place right now.
I live in Michigan and they just ruled in favor of Medical marijuana. So now we have more pot doctors then real doctors. They also shut down all the dispensaries for about 2 months because in the by laws it states that marijuana can not be sold for profit. So even if you get you card you are doing to pay out the butt for the card and it has to be renewed every year. 200.00 a person and if you are on disability it's 100.00.
