... another week, stopped again then started again after two months last week. Also, I have been taking it without a prescription. I don't feel much difference. How harmful is this and will it become ineffective on my body if I take it like this?
First of all it is not right to take Prozac without a prescription as the medicine can cause significant side effects and your doctor needs to be aware of you taking it to be able to monitor you.
Secondly, you will get no benefit by taking Prozac sporadically. It has to be taken continuously and most times it can take a month or more to see the benefits.
Please see your doctor.
Have to reiterate what Marvel has said. Prozac isn't going to do much for you until it has had a chance to build and maintain in the system which can take upwards of a month. If you are taking for reasons of anxiety or depression, it is best to have a doctor's evaluation and oversight while taking this medication. If not, then really no reason to take it.
I have to also say that taking these type of drugs on an as needed type basis will not allow you to get the full effects of the medication, your doctor needs to not only know about this medication but any others that are taken with this. I want you to be the very best that you can be your body needs the full length of time to get the benefit from the medication. along with Marvell and Laurie I want you to be the very best that you can be! caringsonbj (Billy)
Please stop what you are doing.I tried zoloft,4 wkd.then dr. Gave me Prozac 4 weeks, then back to zoloft for 2 weeks somewhere along the line I started to suffer seratonin syndrome, that I am sure of and you don't want to have that happen to you,it makes you sick in a whole new way.I think patients taking any anti depressant should be monitored closely ESP in the first few months because what one persons idea of anxiety a dr. May consider something more serious.this has left me gun shy of all antidepressants but I realize that if you trust your dr.you will try what he or she recommends, but to do this solo is a very risky road my friend.don't want to scare you just want to inform you of the possibilities...
Thank you so much everyone. Looks like what I'm doing is really wrong. I'll stop it right now. I tried it without prescription because visiting a psychiatrist is social suicide in my place. But maybe I should not care about what society says and go to a doctor. Thanks again. :-)
