I wanted to continue my drug/alcohol use but decided to stay clean for the pill without being sure if it would affect it's effectiveness. Does it?
Some antibiotics can reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives.
However, it is safe to drink and use (legal, prescribed) drugs while on the pill. Smoking is risky because it increases the risk of blood clots in the legs, but I smoked for years (in my early 20s) and was okay.
I'd still recommend staying away from smoking or at least reducing the amount you smoke (nicotine... medical marijuana is not associated with the same risks, but for safety I'd still use a vaporizer instead of smoking it, for the sake of your lungs).
But the answer to your question is yes, generally, it's safe to drink (in moderation) and use other prescription drugs (and illegal drugs, but I'd HIGHLY recommend not going down that path... ) with any oral contraceptive.
