I have other related questions on the board with more detail please look and please answer thankyou.
I have been posting answers about Clonazepam. Most doctors do not believe this, or most other prescription drugs, can be addictive. Clonazepm is a benzodiazepine, as with alcohol.
When you went off clonaz, if you went cold turkey, it was extremely dangerous. One of the biggest risks of that is potential for seizures. One gentleman recently had one in my outpatient rehab program.
I was taking 1 mg. in the evening for about 8 years, and before I could enter the rehab program, I was ordered to work with my PCP to taper off. I was told to take .75 mg. for 5 days or so, then lower to .5 mg. for a week, and then .25 mg. for 2 weeks. I suffered from sleeplessness and returning mild muscle cramps. However, I feel fine now, as it has been at least two weeks since my last one of .25 mg.
Addiction is a brain disorder, and it changes your brain, which will never be the same again. Where clonaz is an addictive substance in the same family as alcohol, it has changed your brain, and when you stop, the "pleasure pathway" of the brain (the receptors on the brain's neurons) is looking for the feel-good stuff. When you use addictive substances, your brain begins to stop manufacturing your feel-good chemicals - serotonin, etc., and your brain needs something to feel good, so it craves the chemical substance.
Taper off your clonaz, and don't let the therapist talk you into taking more. You won't feel so hot, but then it'll pass. There are other ways to help with depression and anxiety.
