Sometimes when i eat any food i get bad cramps during bowel movement that can last for an hour before i'm able "to go" to the bathroom. Heard psyllium helps... anyones knows if this a true fact?
If your cramps are due to your stools being hard and you are having difficulty passing them it may help. Make sure you are drinking at least 64 oz a water daily and getting plenty of whole grain fiber, fruits and veggies. Psyllium is a bulk forming med, it absorbs liquid in the intestines making the stool softer and easier to pass. It is very important for you to drink at least 8oz water or juice WITH the psyllium plus at least 64 oz water a day. This helps psyllium work and prevents side effects. Psyllium can CAUSE cramping if you don't drink enough fluid since it pulls fluid out in the intestines. Just drinking lots of water, adding fruits and veggies and making sure you get plenty of fiber will help with or without the psyllium. Be aware that psyllium can cause you to have a lot of gas. I prefer methylcellulose like Citrucel myself. It works basically the same way but doesn't make me bloat so full of gas. Hope you feel better!
