Penicillin is an antibiotic. It is used to treat infections caused by bacteria.
Penicillin will only be of benefit if your cut is infected. Taking antibiotics, such as penicillin, when they are not needed can lead to drug resistant bacteria.
You should not take the penicillin unless recommended by your doctor.

Hi there! I agree with suzanne... an antibiotic should only be used when really needed. If you have a depleted immune system or if your finger does not seem to be healing well, I would seek medical attention... if you have a pharmacy nearby, a pharmacist would give you excellent guidance as to how severe your cut may be and will likely be able to tell at a glance if you need anything more than a good band-aid and perhaps some OTC ointment to help it heal.
