I used to be on methadone for pain. My doctor has just prescribed me opana. When i told him i wanted off of the methadone he told me about some other alternatives. Opana was one. So to answer your question, yes you can use opana instead of methadone. Only if you are substituting it for the pain control. Methadone is also used for getting off of certain drugs. So if you are using it for that my answer would be no, you cannot use it in place of methodone. Some but not all of your other options instead of methadone are oxycontin, opana, morphine, norco,or the fentanyl patch. Again these are not all of your options.
