I have been on prescribed Vicodin for 3 years. I realized my 3 per day is now 10-15. For the last 2 days I have taken only 2 per day. This is so hard. Should I wait till I can't stand it anymore and take 2 at once, or 1 every 12 hours. Or none at all.
There are several ways to approach this question, it is not probably that you take so much (even thou it is more than you should) but that you have been on so long. Your opiate receptors are used to being rewarded by an outside source and need that source to even feel somewhat normal. This has caused the increase in need for more meds. If you can wean you should do it slow the way you created your tolerance. Drop 10% every 4-7 days and don't rush and don't drop to fast or you will end up abusing them again. If you are comfortable with taking a certain amount start with the lowest amount possible, but comfortable. For instance if you take 90mgs a day for 4-7 days then decrease to 80mgs for 4-7 days, so on and so on. When you are to a point of really fighting w/ds don't increase you dose, fight and come to the board and we can talk to you, it helps. Another thing is to break the addiction habit of double up doses or creating extra doses try to take them at the same time each day when you get to a point low enough you maybe able to start to skip doses. Ask to hear from robert 325 or musicman on this board they are really good providers of info and support. Good Luck!!! Fight the good Fight!!!
