CAN I USE Sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim DS 800 mg / 160 mg. FOR A VERY INFECTED & ABCESSED TOOTH?
I AM A 35 YEAR OLD FEMALE WEIGHING 135 ILS.
Sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim may help treat an abscessed tooth ... but you should see a dentist before you start using this.
Trimethoprim is for urinary tract infetions. The way t works s diferent to other antibotics. It changes the uptake in renal tubes (your kdney) of Sodum and Potassium salts and thus the medium for the bacteria , t;s niche is ruined and quickly dies out. YOu will find an absessed tooth will be a staff bacteria and will require either a broad spectrum antibiotic. eg. synermox or augmentin, or basc penncllan in whatever generc you can get your hands on.
I took it for the very same thing. My whole face was completely swollen from the tooth infection and I was in excruciating pain. This medication is an antibiotic used to treat "bacterial" infections and a tooth infection is also considered to be a "bacterial" infection. I took it and it worked great for me. Good luck, I know exactly how you feel!
