I wanted to thank those of you who said prayers and sent healing thoughts to my friend Jewel..they found the source of her infection... it was STREP! She is breathing on her own now with occasional vent breaks. Off dialysis and able to communicate enought to mumble ":Privacy"..Bless her heart!
Has anyone else had this happen to a family member/friend? Strep almost killing them???
As far as me... I am doing well today..I have gained more strength..I had to clean the house today and cook for Jewel's family and I did it without a BREAK! WOW!
NO OPIATES! guess that brain is rebooting??
Can I thank you for your thoughts?
dear sweet runner,
I have been thinking of you for a long time. I am SO glad you posted as I wanted to know how you were doing. Glad to hear that you are doing so well, and congratulations on your success!
I am also so glad to hear the doctors located the source of the infection and I am hoping for a very speedy recovery.
My best to you~
Hey there runnermom
Good news is always welcome! Good to hear about your dear friend. And you, of course, you!
Patience played off again. I'm glad you hung in there, not that I thought you wouldn't. So you'll be off running soon, again. I'm so happy you posted this good news, too.
take care, hon
Hi RM... so glad that your friend is better.
Yes, it is common to have strep. Reaching the lungs to cause pneumonia, which sounds like what she had is fairly common... usually our bodies, with the help of potent antibiotics, usually prevents it from causing pneumonia... but occasionally there are enough of the bacteria colonies to cause pneumonia... and you don't have to be frail and cachexic... sometimes it just happens. I had viral walking pneumonia in June... and I am extremely healthy.
Anyway... the main thing is that she is out of trouble and getting better... and it sounds like they r weaning her off the ventilator. She should b extubated soon. Believe me, they want to get her off the ventilator--- too many potential problems keeping her on the ventilator too long. Her lungs and body have had a chance to rest giving her body a respite from the work of breathing on her own. She will need much support after she is extubated... respiratory therapy, breathing deeply, coughing up all that gunk that was settled in the lobes of her lungs. You may need to help her ambulate the halls to get her energy up and to reexpand her lungs. You are a good friend to be there with her. I would do that for my friends without question.
I will keep her in my prayers that she continues on this positive direction.
Tell her we r all praying for her.
Be well, my friend...
Runner mom I just seen this post and had to say I'm glad your friend jewel is feeling somewhat better she's lucky to have a friend like you and I'm glad your doing well today you must be beat now though I hope your not running more today and get to relax a bit. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family and jewels hope you all have a good day! Jaime
Hi runnermom - Sounds like you're doing so well... that's fantastic! That strep, scary! Mom had strep AND staff after her thumb got infected from a little knife cut in the kitchen! It was horrible!! She went on double doses of 3 anti-biotics, took 2 months to get better; then she had to have 2 breast cancer surgeries..and, they resulted in cellulitis (fluid filled pockets), which showed some staff, but eventually were reabsorbed by the body. Some of these new resistant (MRSA's) are so nasty to fight off; then, the body needs to be built back up with good bacteria/flora. Anyway, happy to hear both you & Jewel are well. You're a good friend... Jillian:)
GREAT news runnermom!! So very happy that your friend Jewel is feeling better. And yes, strep most certainly wreak havoc on the body. My daughter had strep throat and wouldn't tell me that she had a sore throat, it went into scarlett fever very quicky.
Also, I am happy to learn you are doing well today!! This is a good way to start my day, with some great news, thank you runnermom!!!

Hi runnermom! So nice to meet you! :)
Good luck on your 8 miler. That's just so fantastic!
Yes, I agree with you that there's definitely a reason for our existence here. One of your life's journeys might be to help your friend. "A friend in need is a friend indeed." LOL
runnermom, you're on the right path now, so straight & steady as she goes. LOL Your brain is re-booting, you're body is starting to heal itself, & the endorphins you're creating by running & exercising are making you feel better! That's so great, you must be feeling awesome now. Congratulations!
Please don't overdo things, you're still healing & need to look out for number 1. I can tell you from personal experience that dust bunnies will wait for a very long time. Sometimes I think I have a new cat under the table. LOL
All the best to you & Jewel. It's so great to hear such an inspiring story.
Thank you for sharing it with us. God Bless you. Good luck!
