While I am detoxing from methadone??
It does has have a moderate effect on the central nervous system - and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients.
Would recommend that you please seek medical advice from the doc/pharmacist who prescribed the meds.
Please be safe & well, best wishes.
Dear Dream, If a person is detoxing from Methadone, there is a very specific way to make the switch from Methadone to suboxone. You must be at 30mgs or less per day and it is advisable, to wait 72 hours methadone free and start subutex first, lessening the chance of precip. It is better if you don't use the xanax on top of either suboxone or methadone. May I ask, are you seeing a subs dr, or got some on the side/ NO Judgement. Just wanted you to know that the switch from Methadone over to suboxone/subutex, is a difficult switch, can be done, but don't just wing the switch to suboxone, you will do better by using a dr in this switch. No judgement, just would be better. Patti
From my personal experience. I have been taking xanax for 20 years. .25 mgs about 6 times per day. I started suboxone almost 2 months ago. 2mgs once per day. I told Dr about the xanax prior to taking the suboxone and he told me the dose was low and did not see a problem. So far I have felt fine. In fact, I think the xanax has helped me in my Oxy withdrawawls and cravings or anxiety. Dr. did say he would have concerns if my dose was higher. We did not discuss how high because it was not an issue. I do not know if this helps or not but thought I could at least let you know I have had no problems with xanax. Both my doses are low so that might be the primary reason. Good luck
Do you take Xanax or any other Benzos on a regular basis? I don't mean every day, I mean at least several times in a month? If you never take Benzos and now you want to mix Xanax with Sub you would have to be very careful. That would mean taking about 1/4 of what your thinking of taking. Are you aware of the fact that all opiates and Benzos amplify each other? Well they do, and when mixing a Benzo with Sub you must remember Sub is an Opiate. Actually the Buprenorphine is the opiate. If you don't take Xanax at least several times a month, You best take very little to start with. Such as the .25 mg Coby takes. Even if you are used to take Xanax, take only half your usual amount the first time you try mixing them. And the more Sub you take, the less Xanax you should take at once. Just take a small dose, and see what happens. I mix Xanax with Sub, but I've been using Xanax on and off for 11 years. And don't expect to feel any kind of buzz from the Benzos, I find Sub blocks the buzz from them too.
If you follow all these precautions, you should be ok.
