I have been taking oxycodone 30mg for the past 6 months, about 6 a day, I have a few suboxone to help me through this very difficult and painful time. Can I take xanax, somas, or alcohol while taking the suboxone to help me feel better for the next couple days? Or will these drugs take away the effects of the suboxone completely and endanger my body?? Please help, feeling very confused and lonely. Thank you!!
Can I take xanax or somas to relieve withdrawel symtoms while taking suboxone?

Thank you so much for your prompt response. I appreciate it greatly. So If I should taper myself off the oxycodone then how about this, I have 2 roxys left, but i took a half a suboxone 12 hrs ago. Is it ok to start tapering myself off the roxies now even though I have the suboxone in my system from 12 hrs ago?? Will I feel the effects of the roxy with the suboxone from 12 hrs ago?? Please help. Thank you so much!
First let me share that you must be off the oxycodone for at least 24 hours before taking any Suboxone. Secondly, a few Suboxone is not going to be enough to get you through the withdrawals from oxycodone. You need to be on the Suboxone for awhile (like 3 to 6 months) to "heal" the brain from the opiate use. If you only take the Suboxone for a few days, once you stop you will experience withdrawals from the previous opiate use. Might I suggest you just taper from the oxycodone rather than stop cold turkey and try using a few Suboxone?
Xanax, Soma, and alcohol is not recommended while taking Suboxone or any opiate. There is risk of decreased breathing and heart rate. Please consider tapering off the oxycodone slowly, you can avoid withdrawals this way and won't need the Suboxone.
It's been said already and the reason I am repeating this is because it is SO important. You can't, can not, must not, take suboxone while you are on the oxy family of drugs. You have to been in at least moderate withdrawal. The time period most often quoted is 24 hours. This is not gospel. It is pretty close to how long you need to be COMPLETELY opiate free. That means no T#1's or #3s, either.
You might suffer a bit for a few hours. It is doable. Try and sleep if you can to pass the time. When I started I was almost 36 hours since I last took a percocet You'll go into what is known as 'precipitated withdrawals, which I have never experienced, but I hear is hell 100 x over!
Are you thinking of going cold turkey and just taking the odd suboxone to ease the withdrawals? That's what I am getting from after reading and re-reading your post. I might not even be close as to what you're really saying so, let me know, OK?
come back here-the peeps here are helpful, loving, kind and willing to offer their own experiences. A good thing, indeed!
I am still uncertain if you want to start the suboxone program or not.
As far as the Xanax, you need to be careful.
I am on valium. I have been taking valium and other drugs in and/or around the same drug family. For me to stop now would be dangerous-for me, because of MY past.
Not being a pro. I can only offer what I have heard/written from people who have walked this path before (aside from my own). IF you have to take Xanax-only with your doctors orders-as a said before.
Could you please explain what it is you want from the subs. I still don't get it-duh, on my part.
Sorry my head is still fuzzy-and that's with 1/2 cup of strong coffee in my already!
Hope to see you back here.
Hi percephone - You've gotten some good advice, so just wondered how things were going? You're lucky to have your own friends going thru it with you, as well, since it always helps when the "weakness of the flesh" gets strong! Just wanted to add, if you don't need to switch to subox., and you can really do the strict weaning schedule (out of necessity), seems it'd be easier to just do that, all together, and avoid the subox. route. A friend just ran out of her Subox. & tried to go back until next Rx. She cannot feel the a few Lortabs, at all! Not sure how young you are, but sounds like you may be relatively new to addiction(?) I went with subox. after some nasty chronic relapses, and couldn't take a chance with Bipolar I. Anyway, I wouldn't worry if you're careful with the Xanax, as benzos. are often used in tx. centers, but take minimum & not for long, as was already said.
All will show up on a drug test, if you have to take that. The roxys. were out of my system in 20-24 hrs., but the Subox. showed up after 3 days, when I self-tested. And, not sure if you're supposed to have the benzos. in your system for testing, either, so whatever the situation... Good luck, and keep us posted! Jillian
