I have been taking oxy 40mg 3 x a day and want to get off them. The docs had me on percocet at one point. Can I just stop the oxy and start the percocet?
I wouldn't do anything without consulting with your doctor first, but the transition back to percocet from oxycontin should be fine as far as switching back if you are concerned about that. But if you have chronic pain, for which oxycontin is particularly rx'd for, you will find that you may need to be taking more pills overall as percocet is shorter acting. Maybe you would benefit from a lower dose of oxycontin instead to give you longer relief without being too strong?
Unless you want to reduce your oxycodone dose than this doesnt make sense because assuming your percocet at the 10/325, you still would be taking way to much tylenol to keep up with your 120mg of oxycodone a day. My advice is if you want to switch just take 2 of your percocet every 4-6 hours and if your pain isnt severe than that could work, thats still a lot of tylenol though, as someone else said it would probably just be safer to reduce your oxycontin dose, thats a lot of OC and you are probably very addicted.
